  • Are you an independent designer looking to work with unique farm yarn?

  • Are you a new designer excited to share your talents with the world?

  • Are you an established designer who is interested in working with small scale, farm-to-skein projects?

If so, this is the call for you! Melissa (host of the knittingthestash podcast) is seeking designer(s) for accessory patterns to be bundled with her yarn in the Flock Farm Yarn Shop. Right now, there are several candidates in the shop, with more arriving each month!

Project Description

The chosen designer(s) will:

  • create unique, 1-2 skein pattern(s) specifically for one of the Flock yarns including written and charted instructions, using a personal template or the knittingthestash template

  • provide a draft of the pattern(s) to Melissa for tech editing

  • host a test knit for the patterns via the knittingthestash Ravelry group

  • provide a final PDF to be sold on knittingthestash.com with Flock kits

  • provide basic pattern support for one month after the pattern’s release via the knittingthestash Ravelry group

Compensation

The chosen designer(s) will:

  • receive yarn support for their pattern development

  • receive 100% of the proceeds for patterns sold with a kit. Price per pattern to be determined collaboratively (~$5 for mitts/hats; ~$8 for shawls, scarves, and socks). Note, these are small-scale yarn batches, often with fewer than 100 skeins of yarn available for sale; yarn will be available for purchase with or without kits.

  • have their work promoted on the knittingthestash blog, podcast, and instagram

  • retain the right to sell their pattern(s) independently, with a time delay of one month from each Flock kit launch

Timeline is flexible, and depends on yarn availability. Ideally, we’d move from yarn to final PDF within 3-4 months.

Application

Please provide the following materials to Melissa via email: knittingthestash@gmail.com

  • a sample pattern for a new design OR an older, but representative design OR an idea for a design

  • a link to your Ravelry profile OR alternate portfolio of designs and/or knit projects

There is no deadline; I will be accepting design applications on a rolling basis.

**Please note, Melissa particularly encourages submissions from BIPOC designers. She also encourages designers of all skill levels/experience to apply**
